How Klarna Financing Works
The personal loan matching process is designed to give you real offers with minimal friction. Here is what happens at each step.
Complete the Matching Form
Visit our apply page and complete the short request form. You will be asked for your target loan amount (from $500 to $5,000), the loan's purpose, your employment status and approximate income, and basic contact information. This step takes approximately three minutes.
At this stage, only a soft credit inquiry is triggered. A soft inquiry has no effect on your credit score and is not visible to other lenders. You can complete this step with no commitment to proceed further.
Receive Your Matched Offers
Our matching system evaluates your profile against the lending criteria of the 22 institutions in the Klarna Financing network. Lenders whose products, credit requirements, and geographic coverage align with your situation are surfaced as matches.
Each matched offer displays the key loan terms: APR, monthly payment estimate, loan term, and any applicable fees. Multiple offers may be presented simultaneously for comparison. Use our loan calculator alongside these offers to verify that a given payment fits your monthly budget.
Choose Your Preferred Offer
Review all matched offers and select the one that best fits your financial situation. Consider the APR (your all-in annual cost), the monthly payment (your budget impact), the loan term (your payoff timeline), and any origination fee (your upfront cost). Compare the total repayment cost of each offer — monthly payment multiplied by number of payments — not just the monthly payment in isolation.
There is no obligation to accept any offer, and selecting one offer does not prevent you from reviewing others first. Take the time you need to make an informed decision.
Complete the Lender's Documentation
Once you select an offer, you proceed directly with the matched lender to complete their formal application. This typically involves providing supporting documents: pay stubs, bank statements, a government-issued ID, and proof of address. Specific requirements vary by lender.
Submit documentation promptly after being requested. Delays in document submission are the most common reason funding timelines extend beyond the lender's typical processing window. Having documents scanned and ready before you begin the process significantly accelerates this step.
Sign Your Loan Agreement and Receive Funds
After your documentation is reviewed and approved, the lender will send you a loan agreement for signature. Read the agreement in its entirety before signing, paying particular attention to the APR, payment schedule, fee disclosures, and prepayment terms.
Once you sign the agreement, the lender initiates the disbursement process. Funds are typically deposited to the bank account you designated in your application within one to five business days, depending on the lender and your bank's processing time. Your first payment is typically due 30 days after disbursement.
